Spotlight With David Daggett: Supporting Second Harvest

David-Daggett-Second-Harvest-Truck

What are your most fond holiday memories? For many of us, the holidays are the most exciting time of the year.  The sights, sounds, tastes and smells of this time of year bring back memories of  holidays with family and friends gathered around the table.  But not everyone is so fortunate.   As we move into the holiday season, it is so important that as a part of the community and broader family of the Triad, we make sure that our neighbors have all that they need. Please join me and the staff at Daggett Shuler in supporting the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina.

Each November our team at Daggett Shuler holds a food drive to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina. Each year we try to outdo ourselves in how generous we can be for our neighbors. It warms my heart to see our staff show up each day during our food drive with grocery bags full of healthy, nutritious food to donate to the Food Bank. Taking action through a food drive is meaningful and makes a distinctive difference in the lives of those who are hungry.

One in five adults in Northwest North Carolina is food insecure. One in four children are hungry in our community. Seniors in our area on fixed incomes are often forced to choose between buying enough food and covering their medical expenses. And though these statistics are stark, they only show the need that existed in our community before the pandemic and the most recent tough economic times.

Access to food is a basic human right. Second Harvest provides meals to those in need in the Triad, and their doors are open to anyone who needs help. This is certainly a cause the whole community can rally behind. Supporting Second Harvest can be done through a community food drive like the one held annually at Daggett Shuler, and even through a donation directly through the Second Harvest website. You can help make a difference in our community!

What strikes me the most about hunger in the Triad is that the people that we see and smile at each day could be part of the statistics above. The hungry in our community are our neighbors, and we all know how we have been instructed to treat our neighbors.

Thank you for joining us in wrapping our collective arms of support around those less fortunate during this holiday season.

I would like to take time to thank the staff at Daggett Shuler Attorneys at Law. To Megan Youngblood for helping me get my disability started; thank you so much for everything!
