Prom is a rite of passage that most teenagers look forward to. But for far too many, that excitement turns to tragedy when teens make the decision to use drugs or alcohol on prom night. Seeing the aftermath of these poor decisions drove David Daggett to do something about it.

Now in its 31st year, Safe Sober Prom Night works to combat dangerous behaviors and their increased occurrence during prom. Since its inception, over 600,000 students have taken the Safe Sober pledge!

The Safe Sober Prom Night Program works by creating awareness of the dangers of drug and alcohol consumption – especially around the time of prom. The program encourages students to sign a pledge card agreeing to remain sober on prom night. In return for making that pledge, students are given a t-shirt proclaiming to their peers that they have pledged to be drug and alcohol free on prom night.

How do I take the Safe Sober Pledge?

Attend an event at your school and sign a pledge card. If your school is not currently participating, but you would like to get involved, contact your administration. They can contact our Program Director, Kathryn Vernon, at Daggett Shuler, Attorneys at Law by calling 336-724-1234 or by sending an email to

I have a T-shirt design for Safe Sober Prom Night. How do I submit it?

The program runs a contest for high school students to submit original designs, with one to be selected for the following year’s shirt. The student must attend one of our participating high schools. The individual chosen will receive a $1000 scholarship. To enter, simply complete our online form or mail your entry to:
