Hair Straightening Cancer Claims

A recent National Institutes of Health study has established a link between chemical hair straightening products and numerous reproductive cancers, including uterine, ovarian, and endometrial cancers. Hair straightening cancer claim lawyers around the country have begun to file lawsuits against the manufacturers on behalf of those diagnosed with reproductive cancers. The 11-year study followed over 33,000 women of all ages, races, and ethnicities. It showed that Hispanic and non-Hispanic black women, the most frequent and long-term users of chemical relaxers and straighteners, are disproportionately affected.

The manufacturers of these products, largely L’Oreal, knew of these risks but continued to market them to consumers without a warning label.

These products may contain toxic chemicals such as formaldehyde, phthalates, parabens, bisphenol-A, and other carcinogens. These chemicals may cause cancers such as:

  • Uterine cancer
  • Endometrial cancer
  • Ovarian Cancer

In addition to the chemicals in the hair products, some treatments that include heated appliances, such as hair irons, may increase the absorption of carcinogens through the scalp and skin. You may be eligible for compensation if you have frequently used chemical relaxers from the following brands and been diagnosed with cancer:

    • Softsheen Carson
    • SSC Dark and Lovely
    • Mizani
