Police Announce Ten Fatal Accidents across North Carolina during July 4th Holiday Weekend

On Monday, July 6th, The North Carolina Highway Patrol announced that its troopers investigated a total of 10 fatal motor vehicle accidents between Friday, July 3rd and Sunday, July 5th.  Three out of the ten fatal accidents last weekend occurred right here in the Piedmont Triad; two in Rockingham County and one in Guildford County. Tragically, the number of fatal vehicle accidents over the Fourth of July holiday in North Carolina weekend increased this year, up to 10 vehicle deaths compared to only 7 in 2014.

Making matters worse is that it appears proper safety measures may have gone a long way towards preventing at least a few of these fatal accidents. All information related to these crashes is preliminary and investigations are ongoing, but Police records indicate that at least one driver was not wearing their seatbelt when they were fatally injured, and another was riding their motorcycle at 70mph in a 45mph zone.

At Daggett Shuler, Winston-Salem and Greensboro Accident and Personal Injury law firm, we cannot stress enough just how important it is to follow the proper safety protocols at all times while driving or riding on North Carolina’s roads and highways.

More information about these accidents is likely to be released in the coming days and weeks, but for now we would like to urge all of our clients and neighbors to:

  • Wear your seatbelt at all times
  • Obey the posted speed limit
  • NEVER operate a motor vehicle after drinking alcohol
  • Don’t text while driving
  • Use your blinkers when making a turn
