All of us here at Daggett Shuler are committed to raising awareness of the dangers of distracted driving, especially those of texting and driving. We are proud to have partnered with ABC45’s NO TEXT ZONE campaign to encourage those in our community to take the NO TEXT ZONE pledge.
Contrary to popular belief, the epidemic of texting and driving is spread evenly among different age groups; this is not just an issue that affects young people. Unfortunately, these bad habits pose a risk to every driver on the road.
Texting and driving can seem harmless, but in fact 1.6 million accidents were caused last year and around 5,000 people were killed in accidents involving texting and driving. That number is not only unacceptable; the tragedy of those deaths is preventable if drivers would make their cars a NO TEXT ZONE.
You may think that because you can text quickly that you are O.K. to text and drive. Did you know that in the five seconds it takes you to type a few words, your car can travel the length of a football field or more? If your eyes are not on the road and your brain is otherwise occupied, you are much more likely to leave your lane of traffic and get in an accident.
