Altamahaw is a census-designated place (CDP) in Alamance County, North Carolina. Once inhabited by the Saxapahaw Indians, the the area along the Haw River became the location of the Ossipee Cotton Mill, founded by Capt. James N. Williamson and sons in 1878. The Altamahaw Mill Office was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
