On April 3rd, Brenner Children’s Hospital—a division of Wake Forest Baptist Health—once again joined forces with Daggett Shuler Law and our Safe Sober Prom Night program to keep our children protected. For the second year, the Childress Institute of Pediatric Trauma presented Teen Road Safety Day at West Forsyth High School in Clemmons, North Carolina.

About Teen Road Safety Day

Teen Road Safety Day educates students on the impact their actions have when they operate or ride in a vehicle. Injury-prevention experts, safety advocates, law-enforcement agencies, medical professionals, and substance-abuse counselors delivered the hands-on program to students in 9th, 10th, and 11th grades.

Over the course of the all-day presentation, students from the school’s physical education and health classes learned about substance abuse, the effects of alcohol or drugs on driving, seatbelt use, distracted driving, injury prevention, how to share the road safely, and much more.

During each of four 90-minute sessions, students met with knowledgeable and engaging volunteers, including representatives from:

About Safe Sober Prom Night

The presentation works in conjunction with Safe Sober Prom Night—a program co-founded in 1991 by David Daggett of Daggett Shuler Law. Now in its 29th year, Safe Sober Prom Night creates awareness among teens throughout the Carolinas about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. The program asks students to sign a pledge card agreeing to stay free of drugs and alcohol on prom night.
