Spotlight With David Daggett: Holiday Season Safety

happy-holiday-season-from-daggett-shuler

It seems like this holiday season things will be getting back to some semblance of normal for the Triad. I hope I am not speaking too soon, but I am getting pretty excited. The traditions all seem to be coming back, along with the extra time spent with family. We all look forward to special gatherings with friends as we celebrate the holidays and the crazy ride that the year 2022 has been!

As we prepare for the season’s festivities, please remember that the best of times with family and friends can turn to instant tragedy by drinking and driving. One thing that should not be overlooked this holiday season is our commitment to safety, including a commitment to not drink and drive. In my 37 years as a lawyer I have seen too many instances of lives shattered due to a careless decision at the end of a night out. Not only have innocent people been seriously injured or killed, the person who drove while drunk has ruined their life forever. Many accidents can be avoided if we all take a step back and make sure that we are all responsible.

I know that we all want to spend time with special people in our lives, and we deserve to cut loose a bit after the pandemic, but we need to be mindful of how much alcohol, if any, we are consuming. And after a few years of being out of practice of gathering with friends, we need to be on the lookout for anyone who has had too much to drink. We sure don’t want any family or friends getting hurt driving home. That’s why we need to need to look out for each other this holiday season.

So what can you do to help keep everyone safe? First, if you are hosting a holiday party, make sure that there are non-alcoholic beverages available for guests. Keep an eye out for anyone who has had too much to drink and needs a ride home. In the age of Uber and Lyft, there is no excuse to drink and drive – there is always a safe way to get home.

This holiday season let’s all join to together to keep each other safe and make it the best one yet! I hope to see YOU at one of our community events or church services that makes this season so special. Grab me and say hello!

I would like to take time to thank the staff at Daggett Shuler Attorneys at Law. To Megan Youngblood for helping me get my disability started; thank you so much for everything!
