Having A Happy and Healthy Holiday: Safety Tips on Triad Today
With colder weather comes seasonal dangers. From winter driving to holiday decorations to appropriate weather wear, take action to keep everyone safe.

On Saturday, December 20th, attorneys David Daggett and Griff Shuler appeared on Triad Today to share valuable tips for keeping everyone safe over the holiday season. Watch the segment to learn how you can enjoy winter safely.
There are many ways to celebrate end of the year festivities, and with colder weather comes many seasonal dangers. From winter driving to holiday decorations to appropriate weather wear, there are actions you can take to keep you and your loved ones safe.
With cold and icy weather, driving can become more challenging. Black ice is a major hazard as well as driving on snow-covered roads. Some things you can do to ensure safety include:
- Make sure your car is in good condition. Check that your tires have enough tread and are properly inflated, and make sure your wiper fluid is full.
- Be prepared in the event that you get stuck. Keep blankets, snacks, and water in the car. Hopefully you will never need to use them but being prepared never hurts.
- Slow down and give other drivers extra space. Black ice can sneak up on you and can cause very serious accidents, so giving yourself extra stopping distance is a good idea.
- Be aware of others on the road. Between increased holiday traffic and winter conditions, navigating may be more difficult.
- And of course, never drink and drive. Driving while impaired can turn tragic very quickly and lead to serious or fatal injuries. If you’re planning on drinking, make sure to arrange for a designated driver or use a ridesharing service to get home.
Decorating for the holidays is fun and festive, but not without its cautions. Many types of decorations can become fire hazards if not handled with care. Be sure to keep live trees watered, check all the cords and bulbs on your lights, and exercise caution around lit candles.
And, of course, winter can come with snow. When shoveling is necessary, it can be a big job that comes with significant exertion. Dress in layers – you don’t want to be too cold or too hot. When you are shoveling, remember to push the snow instead of lifting it to avoid injuries and strain. Shoveling increases your heart rate so be mindful of how you’re feeling. Keep an eye out for black ice to avoid slip-and-fall accidents.
Later in the episode, David Daggett participated in the Roundtable discussion with Ogi Overman and Keith Grandberry. They talked about current news items and political issues.
