Felony Charges Filed After Fatal Accident in Greensboro

A local man has been arrested and charged with a number of felonies after hitting and killing a pedestrian during a hit-and-run accident in Greensboro. An article on the investigation is available here.

Greensboro Police report a 52-year-old Greensboro man has been arrested after his 2005 Lincoln Navigator struck and killed a pedestrian on Franklin Boulevard near Naco Road. The victim—later identified as a 54-year-old man also from Greensboro—died as a result of injuries suffered in the accident. Franklin Boulevard was closed for a time following the incident.

About the Investigation

Police indicate the driver has been charged with multiple counts—which include Driving While Intoxicated, Felony Death by Vehicle, and Felony Hit-and-Run. The man was booked into Guilford County Jail, where he is being held against a $200,000 bond. Investigators say the suspect crashed his vehicle into the victim, left the scene, and then later returned.

Conflicting Accounts

In a related news item, family members of the suspect maintain he did not leave the scene of the accident. The driver’s nephew, a passenger at the time of the incident, says the suspect only traveled approximately 30 feet in order to turn around. Neither the driver nor his nephew suffered any injuries in the collision.
