Attorneys David Daggett and Griff Shuler of Daggett Shuler Law appeared on Triad Today with the President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Courtney Jones.

On Saturday, January 24th, attorneys David Daggett and Griff Shuler of Daggett Shuler Law appeared on Triad Today to talk about Big Brothers Big Sisters and the amazing impact the organization has had on the Triad. Joining them was the President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Courtney Jones. Watch the segment:
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a nationwide organization that pairs adults (“big siblings”) with children (“little siblings”) to forge long-term relationships. Their mission is to ignite the potential within all children, and they do so by fostering mentoring relationships which help kids see the value in themselves and their contributions to society. The belief that every child has the ability to succeed and thrive in life within is a critical part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters mission.
In the Winston-Salem area, 412 children participated in the program in 2025. There are more than 150 kids waiting to be paired with a mentor, which highlights the need for community participation and volunteering time. The need has only increased over the past few years. While the concept may seem like a large commitment, the involvement is only a few hours per month (4).
Griff spoke about the impact that the program has not just on the kids, but also their mentors. Children benefit from having good role models in their lives, and the mentors also greatly benefit. Volunteering to be a mentor comes with a sense of fulfillment that is incredibly valuable. If you’d like to have a positive impact on a young person by mentoring, you can get started here.
David has personal experience with being a “big;” in fact, he may have one of the longest standing “big-little” relationships in the program. He was paired with a young man named Chuck over 40 years ago, and they have remained in close contact ever since. David credits this relationship with having a great impact on the person he is today.
Later in the episode, David Daggett participated in the Roundtable discussion with Ogi Overman and Keith Grandberry. They talked about current news items and political issues.
