YMCA: Lending a Helping Hand to Youth in the Triad

YMCA-Triad-Today-December-2021

On Saturday, December 18th, attorneys David Daggett and Griff Shuler of Daggett Shuler Law appeared on  Triad Today to talk about the many fantastic programs that the local YMCA offers to support youth in the Triad. Richard Daniels, Executive Director of the William G. White, Jr. Family YMCA was their guest. Watch the segment:

The mission of the William G. White, Jr. Family YMCA is all about helping people reach their full potential in spirit, mind, and body. They do this through a variety of programs, including (but definitely not limited to!) the Summer Learning Academy, youth swim lessons, youth basketball, the Black Achievers Program, the Youth Achievers Program, and in-school programs. They’ve also introduced several new initiatives, including their Teen Referral Program, which offers free memberships to youth ages 12 through 18, access to tutoring, a trip to Camp Hanes, and more opportunities for the kids to take full advantage of the Y’s offerings.

The YMCA holds a yearly Mistletoe Run, which raises funds to fight childhood obesity locally. The 38th annual event was recently held in early December, and Attorney David Daggett was thrilled to emcee the event once again. This race is a wonderful event that brings the community together while benefiting a great organization and fantastic cause.

Another way that the YMCA works to provide positive experiences to the area’s young people is through their After School Programs. Working within the schools to provide constructive environments and good influences can have an enormous impact on a child’s future and well-being.

If you’re interested in finding out more about these programs, how they help the Triad, or would like to explore volunteer opportunities, you can visit the YMCA’s website.

Later in the episode, David Daggett also participated in the Roundtable discussion with Ogi Overman and Keith Grandberry. They talked about current news items and political issues. Watch the video:
