Attorneys David Daggett and Griff Shuler recently appeared on Triad Today with Jennifer Graziano, Senior Community Impact Director for the American Heart Association of the Triad. They shared a lively discussion about the upcoming Triad Heart Ball. Watch the segment to learn more:
The Triad Heart Ball, held this year at the Grandover Hotel and Spa in Greensboro, celebrates the Heart Association’s year-round efforts while bringing together community leaders who have an impact on the Triad when it comes to health-related issues.
The goal of their work is to give everyone a chance to live a longer, healthier life free of cardiovascular disease. One way they do this is through raising awareness surrounding high blood pressure and its impacts on the body. With blood pressure issues, it’s not common to “feel sick” or experience noticeable symptoms. To help combat this issue, the Heart Association has placed blood pressure monitoring stations around the community so people can monitor their cardiovascular health.
Another way that the Heart Association works to promote health is by working to create “a nation of life-savers.” This means having at least one person in every household that is trained in hands-only CPR and has the confidence to use that training in the event of a cardiovascular emergency.
The American Heart Association’s mission and work resonates with both David and Griff and they are proud supporters of the organization. A few years ago, David’s son had to have open-heart surgery. The surgery was successful, and David credits early detection and quick intervention for his son’s full recovery.
Griff shared that his father was diagnosed with heart disease, and when he was in his 80s his doctors strongly recommended open-heart surgery so that he could continue to live a full life. Mr. Shuler’s surgery also was successful, and he lived for another ten years, passing away in his 90s.
If you’d like to support the American Heart Association’s work, there are a few ways to help. Volunteers are always welcome, as are monetary donations.
Later in the episode, David Daggett participated in the Roundtable discussion with Ogi Overman and Dr. Don Martin. They discussed current news items and political issues.
