David Daggett Discusses Local Triathlons on Triad Today

June 2019 Triad Today panel

Attorneys David Daggett and Griff Shuler of Daggett Shuler Law are scheduled to visit with Triad Today host Jim Longworth to discuss two local triathlon events. The Triad Today program will air on WXLV ABC45 and WMYV My48 on Saturday, June 15th, and Sunday, June 16th..

Joining the show will be triathlete Jade Costen, a local business owner, former professional soccer player, and endurance athlete. Jade has completed the prestigious Boston Marathon and competed in multiple Ironman North American Championships.

Smiley Sprint Triathlon

The Smiley Sprint Triathlon—which took place on Sunday, June 9th at the Clemmons West Pool located in Clemmons, North Carolina—hosted both top triathletes and first-time participants. The event featured a 300-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike ride, and 5-kilometer run.

The Smiley Sprint Triathlon is named for Richard Smiley. The owner of Smiley Fitness by Design, Richard was a well-known trainer in Winston-Salem who loved to help beginners prepare for their first triathlon. He passed in 2015 after a battle with cancer.

The event was sponsored by both Daggett Shuler Law and their Safe Sober Prom Night program. A complete list of all other event sponsors and supporters is available online.

In a recent news article, event founder David Daggett summarized the importance of the Smiley Sprint Triathlon by saying: “We wanted to do something in Richard’s name—and I think he would have loved something like this.”

Kids for Kids Triathlon

For younger athletes, David and Jade also discussed the upcoming 17th Annual Kids for Kids Triathlon. This event—presented by Daggett Shuler Law—helps introduce children to triathlons in a safe, fun environment.

This event is open to all participants between 7 and 14 years of age, and features running, swimming, and biking events scaled appropriately to younger athletes. The event will take place on Saturday, July 13th at Brookberry Farm in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
