About the Black Philanthropy Initiative
Launched by the Winston-Salem Foundation in 2007, the BPI supports organizations providing education, financial literacy, parenting skills, and life-skills programs in the black communities of Winston-Salem and the greater Forsyth County area through direct grant funding. Daggett Shuler Law encourages the Triad Community to support the philanthropic works of this organization.
The BPI weighs the merits of each grant application individuallyโmaking sure funding recipients can do the most good in the community based on their field of expertise. Their list of funding recipients includes Authoring Action, Exchange/SCAN, the Experiment in Self-Reliance, Forsyth Technical Community College, and Winston-Salem Delta Fine Arts.
Group Leadership
The BPI is led by a group of African-American volunteers who acknowledge the traditions of sharing in the black community and seek to expand these models of charitable giving through education and engagement. The BPI is guided by prominent leaders in the communityโincluding Mr. Buari, who chairs the Governance committee.
An article on the mission, goals, and work of the BPIโwritten by our own David Daggettโappears in the January 2019 issue of Black Business Ink. This magazine addresses the needs and celebrates the achievements of the local black business community. More on the publication is available here.
