Daggett Shuler on Triad Today 3/20/26
Attorneys David Daggett and Griff Shuler joined Triad Today to recognize World Down Syndrome Day, sharing personal stories and discussing the importance of inclusion with the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Winston-Salem.

On Friday, March 20th, attorneys David Daggett and Griff Shuler of Daggett Shuler Law appeared on Triad Today with host Jim Longworth to talk about World Down Syndrome Day on March 21st. Joining them was board member of the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Winston-Salem, Chelsea Kiker. Watch the segment:
March 21st is an important date for families of people with Down Syndrome, as the numbers 3 and 21 represent three pairs of 21 chromosomes, with the local Deason Dash for Down Syndrome also taking place that day. The Deacon Dash aims to raise money and awareness for the Down Syndrome Association.
When asked about the mission of the Down Syndrome Association, Chelsea had one word: Inclusion. She added, “embracing the individuals with Down Syndrome in the Winston-Salem community by connecting families with information and tangible resources to help members navigate the Down Syndrome journey, paired with fellowship and ways to engage communities and other families that are walking the same, or similar, path as them.”
This is a deeply personal cause to Chelsea, as she is the proud mother of a ten-year-old son with Down Syndrome, Miles Johnson. He inspires her work for the Down Syndrome Association, where she helps pair families of people with Down Syndrome across all life stages, from childhood through adulthood, and provides vital resources and opportunities for fellowship.
Down Syndrome has positively impacted Griff’s sense of advocacy, inclusion, and community as a disability lawyer. He explained that, despite so much hatred and division in the world, there is an abundance of love at the Down Syndrome Association events, and it makes you want to be involved and bring the whole family.
David, who previously won the “Buddy of the Year” award from the Down Syndrome Association, has been involved with the cause for some time. He shared that he had learned a lot from his beloved cousin with Down Syndrome, and how he has shaped David’s life and practice as a disability attorney, as he got visibly emotional.
At the end of the segment, Chelsea stressed the importance of accepting and including people with Down Syndrome, as they gladly accept and include us without hesitation. Then, she shared details about the upcoming Down Syndrome Association’s Starlight Gala in May, where participants are invited to put on their best and enjoy delicious food, listen to wonderful speakers, and dance the night away.
Roundtable Discussion
At the Roundtable Discussion, Jim Longworth was joined by Ogi Overman, David Daggett, and Keith Grandberry, who discussed the State Senate primary race and the validity of the election. With Sam Page winning by a 23-point margin and Phil Berger demanding a recount, Jim, Ogi, and David discussed the implications of viewing election results as illegitimate. Ogi added that doubting outcomes could make voters grow mistrustful of the system.
Later, they voiced their opinions on a few controversial North Carolina laws, including one that rejects ballots from early voters who died before Election Day and another proposed law that would keep children from attending drag performances, with David describing the latter as a “solution looking for a problem.”
Jim, David, Ogi, and Keith then talked about the idea of a commission of private citizens to monitor the Forsyth County school board’s elusive spending habits, the potential elimination of statutes of limitations for sex crimes and trafficking in light of the Epstein files.
At the end of the segment, Jim shared an NYU study with the three guests that claims you age faster when surrounded by “obnoxious people.” Jim then asked if any of them had an obnoxious person in their lives. Overman was quick to say he had gotten rid of all of them with no regrets, while Keith quipped that he was sitting with three of them at that very moment.
