On Saturday, August 17th, attorneys David Daggett and Griff Shuler appeared on Triad Today with Ms. Nareny Martinez, Manager of the Multilingual Learner Program at Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.
Now in its 10th year, the Daggett Shuler Back-to-School Backpack Program is proud to partner with the Winston-Salem Police Department to provide backpacks and supplies to underprivileged students enrolled in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.
The program was founded by Attorneys David Daggett and Griff Shuler, who saw an opportunity to develop strong community relationships with local schools and the WSPD, who work closely together. It has become a hallmark of the back-to-school season in the Triad and school administrators appreciate the community support as the school year starts.
Five elementary schools receive 50 backpacks stuffed with school supplies, to be provided to in-need students who otherwise may not have the items required to start the school year off right. The bags are un-branded and have no logos on them, to avoid a situation where the recipients might be singled out by other students. Among the included supplies are crayons, pencils, notebook, erasers, and more.
School counselors and administrators work together to identify the students who will benefit from the program. Daggett Shuler recognizes that the first day of school is so important to young students, and having equal footing with the other children provides them with confidence and a sense of support.
The Daggett Shuler Back-to-School Backpack Program helps to bring the Triad together to support a wonderful cause, because as David Daggett has said, “Kids are the future!”
