Daggett Shuler Partners, Student Contest Winner Discuss Safe Sober Prom Night on Triad Today

On Saturday, April 27th, attorney partners David Daggett and Griff Shuler of Daggett Shuler Law visited Triad Today host Jim Longworth to discuss the successful Safe Sober Prom Night program, now in its 29th year. The Triad Today program airs on WXLV ABC45 and WMYV My48.

Joining them was Angelina Rice, a senior at Career Center and Walkertown High Schools who won the 2019 Safe Sober Prom Night T-Shirt Design Contest. Angelina’s design and name now appear on 15,000 t-shirts given to students who sign the Safe Sober Prom Night Pledge.

About Angelina’s Design

The selection committee chose Angelina’s design from more than 150 entries received from across the Triad. All entries were submitted blindly, ensuring a fair selection process. For her winning entry, Daggett Shuler surprised Angelina with an award during her Graphic Arts II class.

Angelina received the first shirt to come off the press, framed for her to display—as well as a $500 scholarship. Her teacher, Stephanie Messer, was awarded a $500 grant for her classroom. She plans to use the money to ensure students have the tools they require to succeed.

Current Events and More

Later in the show, David also participated in the Roundtable Discussion—a summary of local concerns, civic or political issues, and current events. A video clip of this lively discussion, which touched upon school policy, election law, and more, appears below.

Safe Sober Prom Night

Safe Sober Prom Night is a program co-founded in 1991 by David Daggett of Daggett Shuler Law. The program creates awareness among teens throughout North Carolina about the dangers of drugs and alcohol—particularly around prom time. The program asks students to sign a pledge card agreeing to stay free of drugs and alcohol on prom night.

For several years, the program has included a Fall Speaker Series—a week-long set of uplifting, inspiring presentations at local schools. The Fall Speaker Series helps expand the program’s impact on students in our community, and helps them to make good choices throughout the year.
