On Saturday, February 19th, attorneys David Daggett and Griff Shuler of Daggett Shuler Law appeared onย Triad Today to talk about Big Brothers Big Sisters and the amazing impact the organization has had on the Triad. Joining them was the President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Shawan Gabriel. Watch the segment:
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a nationwide organization that pairs adults (โbig siblingsโ) with children (โlittle siblingsโ) to forge long-term relationships. Their mission is to ignite the potential within all children, and they do so by fostering mentoring relationships which help kids see the value in themselves and their contributions to society. These lasting bonds help increase kidsโ self-esteem and helps them do better academically, and leave a positive impact on both the โBig,โ the โLittle,โ and the entire community.
Kids arenโt the only ones who benefit from the match-ups, though. It can be extremely rewarding for the โBigsโ to give back to the next generation by teaching them about life and how to stay on the right path and make good choices. Big Brothers Big Sisters is always looking for volunteers to guide young people, and signing up is easy. You can do so here.
In fact, Attorney David Daggett has maintained the longest-running big/little relationship in the history of the program โ nearly 40 years! When he was a law student at Wake Forest, he volunteered as a Big Brother and was paired with then-10-year-old Chuck Lewis. Chuck and David hit it off right away, and the relationship continues to this day. As David is fond of saying, these bonds โchange both lives for the better.โ
Later in the episode, David Daggett also participated in the Roundtable discussion with Ogi Overman and Keith Grandberry. They talked about current news items and political issues.
