Daggett Shuler Attorneys Visit Triad Today to Discuss Swimming Safety

On Saturday, July 20th, attorneys David Daggett and Griff Shuler of Daggett Shuler, Attorneys at Law, appeared on Triad Today to discuss swimming safety with host Jim Longworth. Joining David and Griff was Nathan Durrell, the Executive Director of the Swimming Branch of the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina.

While swimming can be a great way to beat the heat, it can also be dangerous. Drowning is the second-leading cause of death for children aged 0-15. Some startling facts about drowning:

  • Drowning is usually silent. Those in danger generally cannot call for help or wave their arms around, the way drowning is usually depicted in movies and television.
  • Drowning doesn’t always take place in large bodies of water; it is possible to drown in a bathtub.
  • Children should always be supervised when in water as drowning can occur in a matter of seconds.

The attorneys at Daggett Shuler have written an informative e-book about swimming which is available as a free download here. It offers great tips and advice to help keep everyone safe during the summer months.

Nathan discussed the importance of ensuring that all members of the family are able to swim – not just the kids. Swimming lessons are available for all ages at your local YMCA. Financial aid for their programs is available to those who qualify.

Later in the show, David Daggett participated in the Roundtable with Ogi Overman. They discussed local politics and other news topics. Watch the segment:
