On Saturday, February 16th, attorneys David Daggett and Griff Shuler of Daggett Shuler Law discussed theย upcoming 3-2-1 Deacon Dash with host Jim Longworth onย Triad Today. Dr. McNeil Cronin, Board President of the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Winston-Salem (DSAGWS), was their guest. Watch the segment:
Dr. Cronin started the conversation off by emphasizing the mission of the DSAGWS, which is to support and encourage those in the Triad community with Down syndrome so that they can lead fulfilling lives and take advantage of every opportunity. One of the ways that the DSAGWS is able to further this mission is with fundraising events, such as the 3-2-1 Deacon Dash.
The 5th annual 3-2-1 Deacon Dash will be held on March 21st (World Down Syndrome Day) at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds. Sponsored by the Twin City Track Club, this great event has grown each year, and is truly a celebration of the DSAGWS members. Registration is open through March 20th, and can be done here.
David Daggett is proud to be emceeing the event, as he has since the raceโs inception. The message of inclusion and acceptance of everyone makes an enormous impact on the community. David also spoke about one of the things that makes the 3-2-1 Deacon Dash different and special โ a fun .11 mile โdashโ at the end of the 5K. That extra distance brings the race total to 3.21 miles, which represents the 3rd copy of the 21st chromosome that those with Down syndrome have.
Griff Shuler discussed the many positive effects the event has on the community, including involvement from local organizations. An alumnus of Wake Forest University, Griff truly appreciates the participation of their athletics department.
Later in the episode, David Daggett also participated in the Roundtable discussion with Ogi Overman and Don Martin. They talked about many topics, including local and national political issues, along with current news items. Watch the video:
